Driver Ayasha Penfold accused of causing death of cyclist John Durey on A2070 near Ashford

A young woman charged with causing the death of a cyclist has appeared before magistrates.

Ayasha Penfold, of King Street, Brenzett, is accused of killing John Durey on the A2070 in Kingsnorth, near Ashford, on May 31.

Mr Durey was taking part in an organised cycle event and was heading towards Ashford at 7.20pm when he suffered serious injuries in a crash.

Penfold, 20, is charged with causing his death by dangerous driving.

She spoke only to confirm her name, address and age at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court today.

Magistrates ordered her to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on December 13.
She was released on unconditional bail.

Mr Durey, 69, from Lenham, was taken to Kings College Hospital in London with multiple injuries and put into an induced coma. He died five days later in hospital.

He was described by son Oliver as an “inspirational father who was always extremely patient and nurturing”.
