Iconic figures on the Drovers roundabout off Fougeres Way in Ashford are decorated for Christmas

For the second year running the cows and drover on one of Ashford’s busiest roundabouts have been dressed for Christmas.

The Drovers roundabout, off Simone Weil Avenue, was paid a visit by brother and sister Alex and Natashia Whitewood and their friend Amy Kingsnorth last week.

The festive prank saw them add red hats and tinsel to the black metal cows and the drover sculptures.

However, the inhabitants’ new seasonal look almost didn’t happen.

The trio, who performed the same arty act last year, were convinced by a friend to repeat it.

Alex said: “We weren’t going to do it again this year but my sister’s friend asked her earlier this month if she was going to decorate them again as his children had loved it last year.

“So then my sister decided to make the cows look Christmassy again.”

The mischievous friends went one step further than hats and tinsel this year, however, by dressing the drover in a Santa’s costume – although an unfortunate sizing oversight has left the farmer baring his midriff.

Alex explained: “We wanted to do something different this year and dress up the farmer in a Santa suit but when we got there and took it out of the box we realised it was a kid’s outfit and far too small, so we just cut it up and made it fit.”
