Firefighters were called to tackle a fire in a hospitality trailer that had caught alight this morning.

Two appliances and a water unit were called to the scene at the roundabout at junction 10 of the M20 at 6.37am.

The 13.5 metre vehicle had been used the previous day to cater at an event at Silverstone racecourse, and contained 13 liquid petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders.

Firefighters worked for almost two hours to tackle the blaze and the vehicles two occupants were unhurt.

Clive Douglas, Watch Manager of Ashford fire station, said: “It could have been a lot worse, but our crews worked fast to establish a 100 metre exclusion zone, shutting off junction 10, and quickly removed the LPG to a safe distance.”

It is thought the fire may have originated in the vehicle’s brakes.

The incident caused traffic jams during the early part of the rush hour.
