Man arrested after woman reportedly raped in Ashford

A man has been arrested after a woman was reportedly raped in an Ashford underpass in the early hours of New Year's Day.

Officers cordoned off the walkway between Station Approach and Torrington Road at about 12.30am.

On Friday, detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of rape.

This followed a media appeal that included a CCTV image of a man who was seen in Torrington Road around the same time.

The suspect has since been released on bail while enquiries into the incident continue.

Detectives are continuing to appeal to anyone with information who has yet to speak to officers to come forward.
