Ashford Town will hold an open trial to give players from lower levels the chance to make the squad for the new season.

Town boss Steve Lovell will throw open the doors at Homelands on Tuesday, July 21, in a bid to find players able to step up to Ryman League Division 1 South football.

Lovell has seen several of last season’s squad depart this summer amid turmoil off the field and had more than half-a-dozen trialists along for the start of pre-season training on Saturday.

Lovell said he hopes the trial will throw up some new talent for the new season.

He said: "You never know who might be out there. There might be someone who is an improvement on what we already have.

"It will be interesting to see what the standard is like."

Players must register their interest by Friday, July 17, by sending their name, address, phone number, age and position to Steve Lovell, Ashford Town FC, The Homelands Stadium, Ashford Road, Kingsnorth, Ashford, Kent, TN26 1NJ or emailing orsbournes@ntlworld.com

After the first pre-season session at Mote Park, Maidstone, on Saturday, Lovell said: "It was good to get back to football. You don’t realise how much you miss it."
