A majority of parents have so far backed a school’s tough policy over uniforms, after more than 20 pupils were ordered home in three days.

The Towers School in Ashford launched a purge on pupils who broke the dress code such as wearing the wrong coloured trousers.

Since we broke the story on this website last week, some parents have condemned the action but most supported it, with more than 70 per cent of respondents to an online poll backing the school.

Parent Teresa Morgan said: “Children wearing incorrect uniforms should be sent home. Towers’ uniform policy is clear.”

Sharon Hills, the parent of a former Towers schoolboy, said she had to pay £50 for her son’s blazer, which got ripped in the first term. She said: “Maybe some of these children didn’t have the correct uniform as the parents weren’t able to afford the prices.”

The action began last Friday when 15 to 20 pupils were told they must go home and change after they came in black trousers, wore trainers or came in without blazers.

The school rules require mid-grey trousers and black shoes.
