Ashford International Station and McDonald's, in High Street, experience power failure after cable is cut in town centre

There has been a series of power failures in Ashford today.

The power was out at the town's International Station for two hours, meaning customers could not purchase tickets or read the information boards.

The power outage did not affect services however and has since been turned back on.

A spokesman said: "The power went out at 2pm and was restored at 3.49pm.

"It happened when a contractor doing some work in the town accidentally cut through a cable.

"There was no impact on train services but the information boards and lights were off, and the ticket office was closed."

The lights also went out in fast food restaurant McDonald's, in High Street, at around 1.30pm.

Kent County Council's highways team also revealed that traffic signals had stopped working in several roads across the borough, including the junction where Beaver Lane meets Kingsnorth Road.

A tweet said: "Ashford, B2229 Beaver Lane: Traffic signals junction Kingsnorth Road are currently all out. Please approach with caution, KCC Engineer is aware."

Another said: "Ashford, A28 Chart Road: Traffic signals near A292 New Street roundabout are currently all out."

Kent Highways announced at 5pm though that the Chart Road lights had been repaired.
