UK Power Networks tackle power cut in Ashford town centre

Power has now been restored in Ashford after a failure caused disruption to several businesses and forced a leisure centre to close.

Engineers at UK Power Networks (UKPN) have restored power in around 400 town centre properties affected by the power cut.

Staff at The Stour Centre in Tannery Lane were forced to close the leisure complex this afternoon but have since reopened the site.

A message on the UKPN website said: "We were investigating a high voltage overhead electricity line fault which caused a power cut in the local area."

The power was restored around 4pm.
