Racist attack: 2 arrested

TWO men have been arrested in connection with a racist attack on an Asian man in Ashford.

The men, both from the Ashford area, have not been named. Police released them on bail until May 30 for further investigations to take place.

A vicious and unprovoked assault took place on the footbridge from Victoria Road to Elwick Road at 3.30pm on Thursday.

Two Pakistani men were approached by two white males, described as skinheads, in teir teens or early twenties.

One of the Pakistani men managed to run away, but the other was subjected to

a brutal assault. He was taken to the William Harvey hospital, where he remains today with life-threatening head injuries. Detectives confirmed that the victim's condition had not changed and he was described as being in a stable but critical state.

The victim, who lives in the Ashford area, has not been named.
