Tenterden’s parking review is back on.

Ashford Borough Council has published proposals online at www.ashford.gov. uk/parkingconsultation and is reminding residents that they have until January 23 to comment on the scheme.

According to the council, organisations representing residents and businesses, together with elected representatives, have given their broad support for the plans.

The long-running saga of the parking review reached a climax in December 2007 when it was declared dead by council leader and Tenterden resident Paul Clokie following a meeting of the joint transportation board.

According to the council, the new proposals mainly focus on introducing a highway safety scheme designed to prevent potentially dangerous parking at junction mouths, bends and sections of road where parking causes a danger or obstruction.

The scheme involves painting double yellow lines in certain locations in Tenterden and St Michaels, and is designed to help pedestrians cross the road safely, provide motorists with better visibility, maintain access for emergency vehicles and provide passing bays where necessary.

The plans also include a proposal to address the parking issues around Homewood school by introducing a no-waiting restriction on Homewood Road.

Under the proposals, parking would not be permitted between 10am and 11am and 2pm and 3pm on weekdays.
