A teenager from New Romney has been charged with committing two prolific robberies on Romney Marsh.

Billy Williams, 18, of St Martin’s Road, New Romney, was arrested last week in connection with a robbery on Thursday at St Mary’s Bay Post Office in Teelin Close.

On Sunday he was charged with that robbery alongside one in bookmaker’s Jeff Mabey, New Romney High Street, on June 18.

The teenager appeared before Ashford Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with two counts of robbery and three counts of possessing a shotgun without a licence and while prohibited to do so, and possessing an imitation firearm.

Alongside him was Sean Edgar, 20, of Grassmere, St Mary’s Bay, who was charged with one count of robbery relating to the incident at the St Mary’s Bay post office.

Neither entered a plea and they were remanded in custody until a preliminary hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on August 13.
