A woman has been trapped in a car that ended up down an embankment in a crash on the M20 this morning.

Firefighters worked to free the woman after the smash on the London-bound carriageway at about 8am.

A lorry is believed to have been involved in the accident, about a mile from J9 for Ashford.

One lane was closed and Kent Fire and Rescue Service said two crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the woman after her car left the carriageway.

Officers from Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance crews were also at the scene.

The extent of the woman's injuries is unknown.

Kent Highways said one lane was closed, causing minor delays, while the vehicle was recovered.
