Ashford manager Jason Whitmore has challenged goalkeeper George Kamurasi to raise his game.

In his first spell at the club Kamurasi kept 31 clean sheets in 86 appearances and helped the Nuts & Bolts win the Southern Counties East League.

But since returning from Greenwich Borough in January, he's conceded 26 goals in nine games.

Whitmore said: "At the moment, it seems that every shot against us goes in and that can't happen. The form of our keeper has not been the best and he needs to step up.

"He's a good keeper but he needs to get his confidence back and start dictating like he was before.

"Before he left, a one-v-one with George, nine times out of 10 they didn't score but now it's the opposite.

"It's a concern for me. He was playing with confidence at Greenwich Borough so I can't answer that if I'm honest.

"We've asked him that question and even he said he's having a dip in form.

"We've got to get an arm round him and whatever needs to be done, management-wise, we'll do it.

"It's up to us to turn him around one way or another, for him to be a leader from the back again."

Ashford lost 3-2 at home to Phoenix Sports on Saturday and Whitmore questioned Kamurasi over all three goals.

He said: "They scored from outside the box and I have questions over my keeper. I think he should have done better.

"It looks like he leaves it to go out and it goes in. He thinks it's going over and doesn't even try to make the save.

"It's not what I would call an absolute rocket, it's a sliced shot that loops up and goes in - and that was well against the run of play.

"When you look at the second goal, George should have come out and got it.

"Their keeper was on his toes and probably stopped seven or eight attacks from us.

"If you concede three goals, it's very hard to win a football match. That's a fact and at the moment, we are conceding really poor goals.

"We're not being carved open, we're not being beaten by good football.

"The third goal came from a flick-on which, if the keeper comes for, he picks it up. He goes halfway and then goes back again and their player runs on and beats George at his near post.

"For me, it should never happen."
