An anonymous phone call sparked a suspected bomb scare and the evacuation of buildings at the University of Kent.
Emergency crews raced to the campus in Giles Lane, Canterbury, after concerned staff alerted police following the call at 10.40am.
Students were forced to leave the university's Templeman library, which was cordoned off by officers while a search was carried out.
The university was re-opened by 3pm. Police have lifted the cordon and left the scene.
No suspicious devices were found and no arrests have been made.
University spokesman Gary Hughes said: "All buildings on the University of Kent's Canterbury campus have now re-opened following a security alert in the Templeman Library earlier today. Kent police attended the incident.
"Throughout, our main priority and concern was the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff, and visitors to the campus.
"The university has resumed its normal business."
A student called Jade was among those evacuated.
She wrote on Twitter: "Mid lecture we find out there's a bomb threat on campus.
"I did not come to Canterbury to die uno (sic)."
As the drama unfolded, students were told to return to their accommodation and avoid the sealed off buildings.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Denise Everitt said earlier: "We can confirm the evacuation of parts of the Canterbury campus due to a security alert. Kent Police are in attendance."
Staff and students and being told not to return to Eliot, Rutherford, Rutherford Annexe, Gulbenkian, Grimond, Marlowe and Cornwallis buildings.
A police spokesman added: "Police were called to Canterbury University at 10.40am after an anonymous phone call to the university caused concern.
"As a precaution the library has been evacuated and the area is being searched."
