Police hunting suspects who reportedly rammed a 4x4 into another car before climbing out and assaulting the occupants have arrested a 26-year-old man.
Two men needed hospital treatment following the incident in a quiet residential street in Canterbury, which saw two terraced houses damaged.
Firefighters were also called to the scene because a gas main is thought to have been ruptured following the crash.
Witnesses describe seeing two men being treated at the scene, one with "blood pouring from his head".
The incident happened in St Peter's Grove, a quiet residential street on a one-way system.
Officers sealed off the road between the access point to the Greyfrairs Garden alley and St Peter's primary school.
A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Officers investigating an alleged assault that followed a collision in St Peter’s Grove, Canterbury, are appealing for information.
"Kent Police received a report of a collision involving two cars at 12.53pm on Friday 31 July, which resulted in damage to two properties and a gas leak that required surrounding homes to be evacuated.
"Following the collision it is reported that two men in one of the cars were assaulted by the occupants in the other, who left the scene in a silver BMW X5. The two men attended hospital and have since been released."
The spokesman added: "A 26-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He currently remains in police custody."
