Cadbury uses Court Street in Faversham to film new TV advert

International chocolate maker Cadbury is today filming a “market scene” in Faversham’s historic cobbled streets for a TV commercial.

Camera crews and sound technicians were this morning setting up equipment for the one-day shoot in Court Street and Market Street.

The town’s ‘chocolate box’ buildings are being used as a backdrop for the TV advert, but details of the plotline remain a mystery.

Andre Chemetoff - a director of photography who worked on The Beach with Oscar-winning film director Danny Boyle and Leonardo diCaprio - is thought to be involved in the project.

A spokesman for Kent Council Council said Cadbury had contacted the authority asking for a cobbled street in which to film.

Kent film officer Gabrielle Lindemann said: “They wanted a quintessentially English cobbled street for a market scene.

“We sent images of various suggestions – including Rochester, Folkestone and Margate – and they chose Faversham.

“They’re filming scenes all over the country for a montage.”

Ms Lindemann was unable to give details of a plotline for the commercial, as she had not been issued with a storyboard.

Pictures taken at the scene show a firm called Carlton Lane Interiors decked out to resemble a florists called Carlton Lane Florists.

Highways engineers have closed off the two roads to allow crews to park trucks from 7am and they are expected to remain shut until 7pm.

Ms Lindemann said Cadbury will have paid just £300 for the road closure, as the county authority is not allowed to charge beyond administration fees.

Cadbury will have paid additional sums for parking, and any arrangements with traders would be between parties involved, she added.
