The busy commuting route linking the town with Canterbury could be off-limits until Friday, April 19.

Drivers are asked to follow a diversion via the A252, A251 Faversham Road, A2042 and then back onto the A28.

South East Water boss Andy Beston said: “We’re really sorry to those affected by the emergency repairs we’re undertaking on the A28, near Godmersham following a burst water main. We know it’s frustrating for customers when they see road closures.

“Our specialist repair teams have fixed the pipe but for the safety of the workforce and the public, the road will remain closed until the repair is complete and the road surface returned to its original state. We expect the work to be completed and the road reopened by April 19.

“Once again, I’m very sorry for any inconvenience caused and I’d like to thank the community and motorists for their patience.”
