An alert published on Sunday explains that higher river flows, combined with high tides mean that flooding may affect low-lying land near Canterbury and roads next to the Great Stour over the next few days.

Locations most at risk include: Grove Ferry, Plucks Gutter, Stodmarsh, Ash Level and Minster Marsh but no property flooding is expected.

A flood alert will remain in place for several days due to a period of high tides which are expected to peak at midnight tomorrow.

Residents are advised to avoid low lying footpaths and roads near the river and not to attempt to walk or drive through flood water.
