A woman in her 20s has been taken to hospital and remains in a serious condition after a car crashed into a house.
A 27-year-old man from Herne Bay was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving on Saturday, June 2. He has since been released under investigation.
Police were called to Fordwich High Street, close to the junction with Well Lane near Canterbury, after a grey Volkswagen Golf collided with a property just before midnight last night.
Craig Douglas, 52, was in his front room when he heard the car hit his house.
“I heard a screech and a bang,” he said.
“I leapt up and when I went outside I saw a huge white plume of tyre smoke and steam from the car’s radiator.
“The three occupants of the vehicle were dazed and confused. The girl was obviously seriously hurt.”
The woman sustained serious chest and internal injuries and has been taken to a London hospital.
Mr Douglas and his 18-year-old daughter, Phoebe, administered first aid until paramedics arrived.
“My daughter and I have done advanced first aid, so we stepped in to help,” he continued.
“The woman had laboured breathing, abdominal pain and bruising.
“She was unable to stay still, and we were trying to get her to stop moving. Luckily the paramedics were here in less than 15 minutes.”
Mr Douglas added an ambulance took the woman to a nearby field to be airlifted to hospital.
A wall surrounding the property was smashed and parts of the building’s brickwork were damaged by the collision.
A passenger, a man in his 20s, was taken to a local hospital with a wrist injury.
The police Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances and is appealing for anyone who may have seen the vehicle travelling in the moments leading up to the collision to get in contact with them.
