Soldiers from the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment are to be posted to Afghanistan later this year.

The Ministry of Defence announced that part of the 1st battalion will be included in 3 Commando Brigade from October to April.

The battalion, nicknamed the Armoured Tigers, are locally-recruited and their home is Howe Barracks, Canterbury.

Ironically they will replace the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, currently based at the city barracks.

1PWRR will go to Afghanistan from their current base in Germany.
