A28 at Westbere, near Canterbury, shut after motorcycle smash

A motorcyclist is being treated by ambulance crews following a smash this afternoon near Canterbury.

Emergency teams were called just after 1.30pm to the A28 Island Road in Westbere - just outside the cathedral city.

It followed reports a motorcyclist has crashed into a telegraph pole.

The road was closed in both directions near to Bushey Hill Road.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 1.36pm on Saturday to the A28 Island Road, near to Bushey Hill Road following reports a motorcycle had collided with a telegraph pole.

"One person is currently being treated by ambulance crews and there is a road closure in place."
