Outbuilding fire threatens student flats

An arsonist is thought to have set light to an outbuilding next to a block of student flats in Canterbury in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters were called to Victoria Row, Northgate, shortly after 1am to find the brick storage building between Lanfranc House and the King William V pub on fire.

It contained wheelie bins and a log store and firefighters had to battle to stop it spreading to the neighbouring properties.

They believe it was started deliberately and police are investigating.
