This Vauxhall Astra van was shunted into a house in Faversham Road, Seasalter by the rubbish lorry also involved in Monday morning's fatal accident.

A man has died after the rubbish lorry he was driving hit a bungalow in Seasalter, near Whitstable on Monday morning.

It is understood that the man, believed to be a 62-year-old from Herne Bay, may have fallen ill prior to the crash.

His family have been informed.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was travelling at low speed towards Faversham, at the junction with Lucerne Drive, just before the accident.

A couple inside the house had a lucky escape - as they were both sat at the back of the house at the time.

Police were called at 7.50am and the air ambulance also attended, but the man died before he could be taken to hospital.

The lorry appears to have left the road, colliding first with a metal fence and then a blue Vauxhall Astra van (pictured above).

The van was pushed into the side of the house and crushed, causing substantial damage to the right side wall.

Building inspectors deemed the house unsafe and the owners have now moved out.

More pictures and reaction to come in this week's Whitstable Gazette.
