A short film by a Kent director will lead festival-goers right to the heart of one of the UK’s best loved boutique festivals.

Anton French, from Lower Hardres near Canterbury, will show his five-minute film, Walking Man, at this year’s Lounge on the Farm festival and the director hopes it will inspire others to follow in his footsteps.

The 41 year-old film-maker and musician said: “I have been to the last two Lounge festivals and wanted to tell a story that would engage more people this year.

“The man in the film is on a journey from nowhere in particular and ends up reaching the bright lights at the farm.

“The Lounge guys loved what I showed them and they said to go for it”.

Anton approached the Lounge organisers two months ago, and he and Chartham-based colleague Martin Goodsmith are now finished with their project.

The soundtrack will be finalised and the film made available on the Lounge website within a week.

Anton said: “I am Canterbury born and bred and the city’s music heritage has been lost in recent years. I remember venues such as the former Canterbury Odeon and The Foundry that drew bands like Pink Floyd in the 1970s. Lounge is going the right way about reviving the scene here.”

About seven thousand fans are expected to flock to Merton Farm on Canterbury’s outskirts between July 11 and 13 for the festival, voted the fifth best boutique festival in the country by The Times.

This year, bands such as The Bees, The Coral and Black Kids will line up with the best of the area’s folk, jazz, punk and more.
