Walk in the woods lifts Bob's spirits

Went for a walk with various members of the family, friends, children and animals on Sunday to Perry Wood.

What a wonderful place. We were up to our eyeballs in mud brought about by the previous day’s 31mm of rain which, according to the weatherman, was a week’s worth and the fog was thick but none of that mattered because nothing could detract from the amazing colours of the trees.

Mainly chestnuts, beeches and oaks, they absolutely burn with colour at this time of year against the backdrop of conifers and scots pine.

Apart from all that also hidden away here is Shottenden Mill, an Iron Age earth works, the Drawing Room and the famous Pulpit (504ft above sea level, the highest point in east Kent) with its magnificent views over the surrounding countryside and villages (fog allowing).

At the end of all of this is a very fine hostelry which sports a roaring fire and was once voted the KM Country Pub of the Year.

The Rose and Crown has a fine selection of ales and the usual bar snacks plus traditional English food or they will just cook you a plate of chips.

It’s a great way to end a long yomp around some outstanding countryside. If I’ve sold this to you, then I will see you there next Sunday and mine’s a pint of Goachers.

If you're near the Marine Hotel on Tankerton slopes on Wednesday morning just after 9am, look out for the kmfm cruiser as we will be giving away family tickets for the kmfm Mount Ephraim firework display on Saturday night.

Join me on the breakfast show Wednesday morning as I shall be giving you the password that you will need if approached by a member of the cruiser crew and asked to give it up.

We will be in Canterbury on Thursday and back in Whitstable on Friday, keep listening to kmfm for the exact location and days password. Good luck and have a good week.

Listen to Bob weekdays on 106fm from 7am-11am
