LIKE father and grandfather, Carl Homersham loves his cricket. Now his hard work at improving his game has earned him a county honour.

Carl, 13 earlier this month, is to receive the Colin Page Memorial Award for East Kent youngsters. It is presented annually in memory of the Kent coach who had so much to do with the success of the county club in their glory days of the 1970s.

The winners are recommended by the professional coaches at the Ames Levett School for their attitude, progress and regular attendance at net sessions. All-rounder Carl, who lives in Mount Road, Canterbury, and attends the Chaucer Technology School, will receive the award during the Kent match with Yorkshire at the St Lawrence Ground on Sunday, May 19.

His is a notable treble: Carl captained Street End Under-13s to the Canterbury Pharon Indoor League title - they lost only one game - this year and in 2000 was a member of their Under-11s that won the Quinton-Jones knock-out cup. Carl's grandfather, Mick, was a hard-hitting batsman for Mounts and the Post Office. His father, Ian, keeps wicket for Sturry.
