City's rugger men handed second chance

CANTERBURY Rugby Club are to be given a second chance to win precious league points.

London Division 1 administrators have ordered their game against Worthing to be replayed.

The decision comes after the Sussex club were hit by front row injuries during the match between the two sides earlier this month which Canterbury lost narrowly 11-7.

Uncontested scrums were ordered in the last 10 minutes of the game, robbing Canterbury of an advantage.

It has since emerged that, under league regulations, the game should have been abandoned because of the front row problems.

Neither team, nor the referee were aware of the regulation.

The league have ordered the match to be replayed on Saturday, February 7, but the following day Canterbury are to play Bromley in a Kent Cup quarter-final while Worthing are scheduled to meet Haywards Heath in the Sussex competition.

The two clubs are hoping to stage the game on a mid-week date instead.
