SIMON SMITH: "We'll be confident"

THE indoor cricket specialists from Canterbury Cricket Club will again be representing Kent and country at this weekend’s Kentish Gazette European Sixes event in Belgium.

The six players from Polo Farm, who are captained by their wicketkeeper Simon Smith, will defend the title they won last year.

They have already won this year’s Pharon Canterbury Indoor League crown and in previous winters reached the National Indoor final in 2004 and 2005 at Lord’s and Loughborough respectively.

Smith said: "We were very proud to go over there and win it last year and we’re equally proud to go back and defend it this time around. Not everyone has a chance to represent their country this way."

Smith will be without two of his most experienced players in Rob Marsh and Ryan Minter, but believes his side of Paul Steer, Damian Minter, Neil Bristow, Ben Cooper and Justin McVicar will come up with the goods.

Smith added: "Having won our league for five of the last six years and been county champions for three of the past four seasons, we’ll be confident."
