Indoor season off to a poor start for Canterbury

Canterbury men’s 1sts Indoor England Hockey League campaign got off to the worst possible start after they suffered four consecutive defeats over the weekend.

Playing in their opening Premier Division games on Saturday, Canterbury were thrashed 9-2 against Old Loughtonians, before losing their second game against Loughborough Students 8-1 at Tonbridge School.

The men’s 1sts failed to improve on Sunday after they were on the wrong end of a 13-0 defeat against East Grinstead.

In their last match, Canterbury went down to an 8-5 defeat against Harleston Magpies.

The ladies’ 1st XI had mixed fortunes in the Women’s Premier Division.

Canterbury faced Ipswich in their opening game at the Whitgift School on Saturday.

After losing 3-2, Canterbury bounced back to secure a 4-1 win against Chelmsford.

On Sunday, Canterbury thrashed Aldridge 6-1 before losing their final game 4-3 against Slough.
