Kent Cricket release former Durham all-rounder Ben Harmison after four seasons at the club

Kent have confirmed that all-rounder Ben Harmison has left the club after four seasons at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

The 30-year-old left-hander joined the club from Durham in 2011 but his contract ended in September 2015 and the club confirmed on Thursday that he would not be offered a new one.

The left-hander scored four centuries for the county, notably an excellent 123 against Essex at Tunbridge Wells in July 2015 - the high point of a season blighted by a knee injury sustained at the end of the 2014 campaign.

The right-armer's bowling kicked-on in 2014 and Harmison recorded a career-best 3-40 in the Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-final win against Gloucestershire and 3-35 in a NatWest T20 Blast win against Sussex.

The emergence of South African batsman Sean Dickson last summer, the development of Fabian Cowdrey and the arrival this summer of South African pacebowler Kagiso Rabada and New Zealand batsman Tom Latham were likely to further hamper Harmison's first-team chances in 2016.

A club statement said: "Everyone at Kent wishes Ben and his family all the best for the future."

This winter former Newcastle United FC youngster Harmison has been playing football for Northern League Division 1 side Ashington, a side managed by his brother, former England bowler Steve.
