Mixed fortunes for Canterbury

CANTERBURY enjoyed mixed fortunes in a gruelling weekend double-header which saw them lose ground in the league promotion hunt but gain a place in the Kent Cup final.

Ealing leap-frogged Canterbury into third in National League 3 South and completed the league double over the city club after a convincing 20-9 win on Saturday.

Canterbury only had three Gert De Kock penalties to show for their endeavours while Matt Pinnick - who had recovered from a calf-strain in time to take his place in the side - was yellow carded.

The following day the city club booked their fourth consecutive final spot after a 17-3 win at Old Colfeians.

De Kock, Mike Melford and Theo Thodes notched tries while Neil Meyer picked up a yellow card.

Their London opponents were restricted to a solitary penalty kick.

Canterbury will face the winners of the Blackheath v Bromley semi-final clash in the final - which will be played on Sunday, May 4.
