Kent captain James Tredwell admits his side are embarrassed about their dismal losing streak and insists everyone is hurting.

Kent have won just one of their last 11 matches in all competitions and five of 21 domestic fixtures in total and lost their opening five Friends Life t20 games, with the England spinner saying Monday’s heavy defeat at Essex “felt like we’ve been trodden into the dirt.”

He said: “I’d hope everyone’s hurting, especially when you get to this scenario and you’ve lost a few on the bounce.

“You get to the stage where it’s slightly embarrassing, 62-runs is quite a big margin in t20 cricket and it’s not nice to come off the ground and feel like you’ve been trodden into the dirt.”

Tredwell revealed he and coach Jimmy Adams had tried getting tough with the players as well as adopting a softer approach on occasions.

He said: “We’ve tried both but ultimately the team has just not performed. We can tell people off or give consolation where necessary.

“We’ve worked hard, we’ve just not done it and whatever the reason is, we need to search for that and pretty quickly.”
