Bullet train service could make early entrance

High speed domestic rail services from north Kent to London are likely to start early, with passengers getting a limited preview service this summer.

The 140mph Class 395 trains begin service on December 13 but progress in preparations means that rail operator Southeastern wants a preliminary service months in advance.

This would include the route from Ebbsfleet to St Pancras International.

It is believed that the early service could consist of three trains in the morning peak and three return ones in the evening.

A spokesman for Southeastern said the company hoped to introduce this provided driver training and other technical preparations were completed in time.

The announcement is likely to be a welcome boost for both Dartford and Gravesham, with may hoping that the new bullet service will make the two towns a more attractive place for business and a place to live.
