Charlton are believed to be £1m better off following central defender Michael Turner's £6.5m move from Hull to Sunderland.

When the Addicks sold Turner, a club trainee, to Brentford in August, 2004, a sell-on clause was inserted in the deal.

Charlton manager Phil Parkinson, who, ironically signed Turner while in charge at Hull, confirmed the club were entitled to money from that deal but declined to say how much.

He said: "He was my first signing when I managed Hull and it's quite bizarre how it's turned out because we were haggling with Brentford over the fee.

"They had this sell-on clause with Charlton and we talked them into agreeing that they would not take anything off Brentford but would wait until the next time he moved, which reduced the amount of money we paid Brentford.

"Two years down the line Charlton have been able to benefit, which is good for the club."

League 1 leaders Charlton are at home to Brentford on Saturday, kick-off 12.15pm.
