All lanes have reopened on the A2 after a lorry transporting chocolate bars caught fire.

But, in a bizarre twist, the lorry reignited elsewhere, causing more delays.

A statement from Kent County Council highways said all lanes were open on the A2 London-bound between Ebbsfleet and J2 for the M25.

It added: "However, the lorry has reignited and is currently on the M25 anticlockwise entry slip at Junction 2, from A2 westbound.

"The slip road has been closed as a result.

"Emergency services are in attendance. Delays remain on the A2 westbound."

The second incident was cleared by 3.30pm.

The latest update comes after firefighters were called to the London bound carriageway near the Northfleet and Ebbsfleet turn off just before 3am.

There are no reported injuries, and it's believed the lorry contained Lion bars.

Firefighters are working with Kent Police and Highways Agency, while a specialist technical rescue unit and all-terrain vehicle have been sent to the scene.

Crews wore breathing apparatus, and used a high-pressure hose reel jet with compressed air foam, fog spike and cold-cut firefighting equipment to put out the blaze.

The fire was concentrated in the cab of the lorry.

Efforts have been made to remove the lorry's chocolate bar cargo so that the vehicle can be moved once the fire is out.

The cause of the fire is not known.

Meanwhile, one lane was closed and traffic was queueing due to an accident involving a car and motorbike on the A2 Westbound between the Wrotham Road turn-off and the Southfleet turn-off.

This is separate to the lorry fire just before the M25 and has happened in the queues.
