The policeman alerted local officers before following the vehicle.

He was joined by a police patrol at around 5pm and the driver of the Skoda is reported to have driven away when asked to stop before being involved in a collision with a police car.

Following the pursuit the driver left the car on foot and a search for him led to an arrest at a hotel near West Kingsdown.

Bevan, 21, was charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was also charged with four further counts of the same offences as well as failing to stop after a crash in Main Road, Longfield, on Saturday, February 15.
