Erasmus Ahwoi, accused of murder of Thomas Rossiter in alleged Swanley hit and run, now charged with drug dealing

A man accused of murder after an alleged hit-and-run in Swanley has now been charged with drug dealing.

Erasmus Ahwoi was not present for a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court today after refusing to leave prison.

He is alleged to have run over 42-year-old Thomas Rossiter in Lynden Way on July 4.

Prosecutor James Lofthouse said Ahwoi, 29, of Stroud Green Gardens, Croydon, had been further charged with possessing heroin with intent to supply and money laundering.

Judge Jeremy Carey was told Ahwoi had been transferred from Elmley Prison in Sheerness to HMP Lewes because he feared for his safety.

Mr Lofthouse said Ahwoi was concerned he would not be returned to Lewes if he attended court.

The hearing went ahead in his absence after the judge said he would not be prejudiced.

A preliminary hearing for the drugs matter will be held on November 6.

A plea to the murder charge has not yet been entered yet but a not guilty plea has been indicated and a trial date set for January 4 next year.

Mr Rossiter and Ahwoi had been in the same car. Mr Rossiter was caught under the wheels of the hired car and dragged along for about 100 yards.

He suffered serious injuries and died soon afterwards in Darent Valley Hospital.
