Scheduled A2 roadworks overrun at A2 Londonbound at Bean Interchange for Bluewater

All lanes have now reopened after overruning resurfacing works caused tailbacks on the A2 London-bound at Bluewater.

Traffic was stretching back for miles earlier this morning, with motorists enduring delays of around an hour and 10 minutes.

Two lanes were shut at the turn-off for Bluewater at the Bean interchange, with congestion stretching back to J2 of the M2 for Strood and Rochester.

They have now reopened, but it's expected to take some time before the backlog is cleared.

A Highways Agency spokesman said the works overran due to a fault with the equipment on site.

A statement continued: "New tarmac has arrived and is now being laid. Works are expected to continue throughout the morning peak."

Drivers are told to expect extra traffic on the A20 and M20 as vehicles escape the queues.

There have also been delays on local routes through Gravesend, Northfleet and Greenhithe.
