Police offered security advice for residents, telling them not to leave anything on display, take valuables out of the car, wipe satnav suction marks off your windscreen, remove steroes and never to leave keys in the ignition.

They also suggested using a steering lock to help secure older vehicles, parking in a garage or in a well-lit area and to make sure you don't leave your car keys visible from outside your home.

Police spokesman Sally Smith said: "Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV is asked to contact the witness appeal line on 01474 366149 quoting crime reference 46/90806/19.

"Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers in Kent anonymously on 0800 555 111."
