Arsenal and England star Alessia Russo could feature at Dartford’s Princes Park as the Gunners face London City Lionesses in FA Women’s League Cup

One of Kent’s biggest sporting talents could return to the county – with more than 3,000 football fans purchasing tickets in just two days to watch her team in action.

The Gunners will travel to Dartford's Princes Park on Wednesday (February 7) to play the tie.

The stadium in Darenth Road, as well as being home to the town’s men's team, also plays host to the Women's Championship outfit.

It means Russo could return to the county if picked by Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall as part of the team's squad.

Tickets for the game have already been in high demand, with up to 2,000 reportedly being snapped up by supporters within minutes of going on sale on Wednesday evening (January 31).

In total, more than 3,000 have now been purchased as of Friday afternoon.

Princes Park has a capacity crowd of 4,100 spectators - including 645 seats - meaning next week's 7pm fixture is likely to be sold out.

Arsenal forward Russo was educated at East Farleigh Primary School before she attended St Simon Stock Secondary.

The 24-year-old played football for Bearsted FC in the early stages of her career, before moving on to Charlton Athletic, Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion.

She signed for Arsenal in the summer having joined from fellow WSL outfit Manchester United.

Russo, who played a key role in securing the Lionesses a victory at the European Championships in 2022 as well as a place in the Women’s World Cup Final in August, was also awarded Freedom of the Borough of Maidstone in October.

One of those who applauded the motion was Cllr John Perry (Con, Staplehurst), who described Russo as “a really great role model for women and girls.”

Meanwhile, London City Lionesses were founded in May 2019 when the team decided to become an independent club and split from Millwall Lionesses.

Next week’s tie is to be broadcasted on The FA Player app.
