A SUSPICIOUS white powder which sparked a chemical alert in Dartford was not hazardous, it was confirmed today.

The substance was found yesterday afternoon at the town's Royal Mail sorting office in West Hill.

Post workers were locked inside the sorting office for more than seven hours after the package containing the white powder was found.

It is believed only 20 of the workers inside the building came into contact with the substance. Seven fire crews from across the county, including a specialist decontamination unit from Ashford, were drafted in to cope with the large-scale operation.
