Woman dies after being hit by white Ford Transit van near Asda in Bartholomew Way, Swanley

A woman has died after being hit by a white Transit van during rush hour traffic.

The incident took place in Bartholomew Way, Swanley, near the roundabout junction with Swanley Lane shortly after 9am yesterday.

It led to the road being closed for several hours while police and paramedics attended the scene. An air ambulance was also required.

Police have today confirmed a woman in her 50s has died.

It is reported she was hit by a white Ford Transit vehicle while walking towards the roundabout at the back of the Asda supermarket.

The driver of the van has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving while under the influence of drugs.

He has since been bailed pending further investigation.

Officers are now appealing for people to come forward to help with their investigation.

A spokesman for the force said: "Witnesses and dashcam footage are sought following a fatal collision in Swanley.

"At around 9am on Tuesday (January 16), a white Ford Transit 100 was travelling along Bartholomew Way towards the roundabout at the junction with Swanley Lane, when it was involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

"Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) attended the scene where the pedestrian, a woman in her 50s, was confirmed deceased.”
