A fund to raise money in memory of a young man from Kent killed in Cyprus has topped £10,000.
George Low, 22, from Dartford, died and his friend was badly injured in a horrific stabbing attack in the Cypriot holiday resort of Ayia Napa.
George was reported to have suffered fatal neck injuries while out in the popular clubbing area on Saturday night. His friend's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
It was being reported yesterday that the pair were targeted following an argument earlier in the evening and local police were continuing their hunt for the killers.
Friends have been paying their tributes to the young man, who is believed to have worked at the resort last summer but had moved back to Kent and was visiting pals when he was attacked.
One of his mates Dean O'Keefe told KentOnline that George was part of the "Napa Family" who worked in the party resort on the Mediterranean island.
Dean, 21, a floor-layer from Crawley said: "The whole community are in shock. We all gradually got to hear about it on Facebook. George was very funny, the nicest man you could ever meet. Everyone knew George in Napa.
"He was very popular and well-liked and worked in many of the bars over about two years. He never got into any trouble."
Dean has set up a gofundme page to pay the costs of getting his body back to the UK.
He said: "In just 45 minutes I have already got £400."
This morning it had reached £10,305.
He is trying to get in touch with George's family who are believed to live in the Dartford area. His family are being supported by the Foreign Office.
Jason Woods, who is believed to have spent time with Mr Low in Ayia Napa, posted on Facebook: "Words can't describe what you meant to me. I was lucky to have you as a brother and I am truly heartbroken by this tragedy!!"
Another friend added: "Feel so sick, one of the worse things I've ever heard. Was the cheekiest, funniest character in Napa".
Laura Duckworth posted: "Cant believe someone would be so cruel, RIP George x"
Another fundraising page has been set up by friend Jake Firth to help with the family's expenses. In a heartfelt tribute, Jake said: "Please give generously as George gave everything he had to everyone he ever met. He lived life to the full with no regrets and we will all remember him for a lifetime."
The two men were taken by ambulance to a private clinic in Paralimni where doctors confirmed Mr Low’s death.
Cyprus Police are searching for two men who were still at large and were checking ports and airports. The suspects were described by as young. The first was "short, chubby" and wore jeans and a white shirt while the second was also said to be short, with short black hair and was naked from the waist up.
Deputy police chief, Giorgos Economou, said it appeared from the evidence collected to far that the attacker may also have been foreigners but he did not know their nationality.
The street where the attack took place is next to the town's main square and Mr Economou said a the time the area was crowded making it easy for the killers to hide among the revellers.
The police chief said the victims did not appear to have been drinking. A post mortem will be carried out today (Monday) on the dead man at Larnaca hospital.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are providing support to the family of a British National who sadly died in Cyprus on 14th August and will remain in contact with the local authorities who are investigating."
