Teenagers were seen by Dartford fire crews running away from the scene of a fire on a recreation ground.

Dartford firefighters were called to the blaze at the land in Lower Heath Lane, Dartford at 1.15am today.

A panel of fencing had been set alight and as firefighters from green watch arrived, a group of youngsters could be seen running from the recreation ground.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service crew manager Richard Cromarty said: "Kent Police turned up shortly after us and had a look around but they did not find the youths.

"It was a small fire which we extinguished with buckets of water."
