Blackpool result could light up Parkinson's prospects

Blackpool v Charlton

Caretaker manager Phil Parkinson knows his career prospects at Charlton will significantly improve if the side return from Blackpool with any reward.

The match is Parkinson’s third in charge since succeeding Alan Pardew and he will be hoping for a case of third time lucky as he attempts to hoist the club from the doldrums of the Coca-Cola Championship relegation zone.

Last season Charlton produced one of their worst performances in going down 5-3 at an inhospitable venue where they struggled to cope with the elements on a day when the scoreline flattered them.

Recalling last season’s events at Bloomfield Road, Parkinson stressed: “We will need attitude and application if we’re to get anything from there.

“I’m going to make sure the players roll up their sleeves, compete for every ball and stick their heads in where it hurts.

“We didn’t do that last season. We just turned up, thought we’d have a lovely game of football _ didn’t compete.

“It will be windy and cold, as it was last season, and we must make sure we’ve got all 11 players up for the battle.”

Parkinson is demanding that the players build on last weekend’s goalless draw against fellow strugglers Southampton when only a sublime performance from Saints’ goalkeeper Kelvin Davis prevented the Addicks from securing a much-needed victory.

Midfielder Therry Racon is Charlton’s only doubt with a knee injury sustained two weeks ago against Queens Park Rangers.

Blackpool ended a four-match losing sequence last weekend with a 2-1 win away to Plymouth.
