Charlton manager Alan Pardew was left reflecting on two highly contentious decisions which almost certainly cost his side a second away win in five days at the City Ground on Saturday.

First, Luke Varney was hauled down by Forest skipper Kelvin Wilson in the 42nd minute when clear on goal.

Then, in the 51st minute, Forest substitute Matt Thornhill clearly handled Hameur Bouzza's cross.

On both occasions referee Karl Evans waved aside their protests.

"I was disappointed with both decisions and feel that the referee was influenced last week when Chelsea's John Terry was involved in a similar incident and was sent off.

"That decision was rescinded and maybe the referee had that in the back of his mind. I thought the second was a clear handball.

"Nevertheless it was a terrific game for a goalless draw."

Charlton nearly won the gave in the 85th minute when substitute Andy Gray sent in a perfectly placed header from which Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith produced a stupendous save.

Forest were not without their chances in a lively game and Nathan Tyson missed an 83rd minute sitter from Thornhill's cross.

Forest were reduced to 10-men two minutes later when Thornhill was shown a second yellow card following a challenge on Grant Basey.
