Gavin Peacock, the former Gillingham Player-of-the-Year and Charlton midfielder, is to pursure a new career in the Church.

The 40-year-old, who lives at Wilmington near Dartford, has been working as a pundit for BBC television since retiring from the game and has been a part of the their team at the European Championships.

Peacock has enrolled in a divinity college in Canada where he recently bought a house.

"I've enjoyed my time working for the BBC but this is something I've been thinking about doing for some time," he explained.

The son of the former Gillingham manager and Charlton director, Peacock has hosted a number of programme's in the BBC'S long-running "Songs of Praise" series.

He fronted one from Rochester Cathedral recently and hosted Sunday's from Spain.
