Charlton club secretary Chris Parkes has confirmed that striker Luke Varney will remain with Derby County, despite the departure of manager Paul Jewell.

There had been speculation that Varney, who was signed by Jewell on November 27, could return when the January transfer window opens.

But Mr Parkes stressed: "The deal has been done and the paper work completed. Luke Varney is a Derby player."

The Pride Park club are believed to have paid in excess of £1 million for the 26-year-old who cost Charlton £2.5 million when he moved from Crewe in May, 2007.
