Cllr Butler said: “I’m really pleased and thankful for all the support! It’s a massive opportunity and I can’t wait to do Deal proud. I believe in grass roots and listening to what people need so I am so pleased for the chance to bring that to our council.”

Cllr Derek Bond, who has grown up in the town said: “I feel shocked but very happy. A big, big thank you to all the people who voted for me. It’s a great opportunity for people under the age of 35. It’s youth power!”

Cllr Bond, who is the head chef at Victuals & Co in St George's Passage, Deal, is looking forward to making a case to improve Freeman’s Way park and deal with pot holes in the Mill Hill area.

Former Mayor of Deal Marlene Burnham (Lab) has been re-elected with 1,438 votes, but topping the poll is Mike Eddy (Lab) with 1,904 votes.
