It’s time to vote in the East Kent Mercury’s photo competition, with the winning entry going on the front page of the popular Mercury calendar.

The annual competition is backed by Deal Town Council and Deal and Walmer Chamber of Trade.

The idea is to encourage people to take pictures to promote the area, and to find photos to put in the Mercury calendar, which will be carried in the edition of December 3.

The photos have been sent and emailed to the Mercury, with entries closing on Friday. They will now go on display at Deal’s Landmark Centre, where readers can vote for their favourites from Monday (November 2).

The 12 with the most votes will go onto a shortlist for a panel of judges to decide the winner. The winning photo will go on the front page of the Mercury calendar and the photographer taking it will receive the Mayor of Deal Cup.

There will also be prizes for the photographers taking the pictures placed second and third.

All shortlisted pictures will be published in the Mercury, and some others could be used in the calendar as well.

All entries will be on display at the Landmark Centre, in Deal High Street, next week. The centre is open between 9am-3pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Deal Deputy Mayor Wayne Elliott said: “As always, we’ve got lots of very good photos - so get down to the Landmark Centre and vote for your favourites."
